Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay & this year they’re focusing on suicide prevention. Every year, around 800,000 people die by suicide globally. Men accounted for three- quarters of the 6,507 UK deaths in 2018. THIS IS SO UNBELIEVABLY SAD. Each of us can help by paying close attention to the wellbeing of those around us, open up a conversation and offer up time, understanding and a listening ear for those that might need it. . Mental health is something so extremely close to my heart and something I will never stop talking about in the hopes it will encourage others to do the same. For people to feel they can share their stories, their feelings & their thoughts, no matter how awful & haunting they may seem or feel. Trying to navigate your mind is like being lost in a labyrinth, your path can feel back to front, upside down & never ending. You might open a door that takes you somewhere you didn’t want to go or follow a path that leads you further away, but you should never feel alone on your journey. It’s better to have perspective, a difference of opinion, an alternative mind to listen to, and that’s why talking helps! Whether that is to a friend, a colleague, someone you feel you can trust or a therapist, it’s SO important that someone knows how you’re feeling, that someone can offer you a hand when you most need it, or follow you side by side when you get a bit stuck. It might feel as though nobody will understand, that you’re different & that your situation won’t make sense to anyone, but I can PROMISE you, people care, people will listen & people want to help in any way they can 🧡. . I decided to accompany this post with a couple of photos of me where I know I felt genuinely SO happy, that even though I’ve had days where I’ve wished my smile was real, it goes to show that these days do exist, and they do happen, and they’re bloody marvellous x
